Our Story

Urban FarmGirls is a family owned business founded in March of 2009.

We are a unique garden design and landscaping company grounded in the heart of San Francisco, California.

We specialize in earth-friendly alternative garden solutions for private residences and commercial environments for both outside and indoors. We offer a distinct line of garden products and design, consultation, install and maintenance services for container gardens, roof top gardens, vertical gardens and small to mid-size outdoor urban living spaces.

Ufg's garden products include locally-made artisan pots that are light weight and porous, living wreaths, and vertical garden boxes for exterior and interior enjoyment.

Our focus is to encourage a more sustainable gardening practice thru water wise techniques, such as drip irrigation, drought tolerant plant awareness and edible gardens in keeping with the natural ecology of the region. We approach every design, residential / commercial project with exceptional friendly service and an artistic eye that is second to none.

 

Tina Calloway - creator & owner

artist, gardener & designer

Tina Calloway is orginially from England and comes from a family of avid-gardeners. Some of her fondest memories are of being in her grandparents gardens in England during the summer months while visitng from America after immigrating to the US in 1974. Helping her grandfather in his greenhouse with his tomato plants or mowing the lawn in a crisscross pattern were many of the activities that created a love of gardening early on. Through her childhood she lived in rural towns in California and had horses until she went away to college to focus on an art degree. Before moving to San Francisco Tina lived in Chico CA for 6 years and grew an extensive food garden during her time there. She said "I always talked about getting a degree in horticulture if I wasn't studying art, I guess things do come full circle."

Tina is an accomplished artist with formal training in painting and design. She has taught art and food gardening courses at the Cedars of Marin Textile Art Center in San Rafael, and encaustic painting work-shops throughout San Francisco for the last 10 years. Tina stumbled upon the name for Urban FarmGirls while gardening with her daughter in the Bernal Heights Community Garden and the business was born.
